Lions, Tigers, & Bears

So, having now lived with a man for two months, I have had my eyes opened to lots of aspects of the world of men.  That requires an entirely separate post which I may or may not write later, but for now, something I saw yesterday struck me and added to my growing thoughts about men.

As I was walking around the lake yesterday, the wind picked up and was absolutely wild.  The lake was thrashing with white-capped water and splashes were spraying all the way up to the trail. My hair was whipping all across my face and I had to just give in and let it blow because there was no hope for the insane mop. There were a few brave kayakers who were eagerly putting into the water and heading out to brave the waves.  I was enjoying the craziness and decided to walk on the beach to be closer to the action and let me tell you, that was some ferocious wind! The sand was like little razors on the backs of my legs, arms, and face, and I was getting sprayed in the face by icy water.  As I got closer to the docks, I noticed how the massive waves were rolling, no, bulldozing to shore and splashing violently against the banks, shooting geysers of water up into the air as they smashed together.  I had to stop in awe as I thought, 'Wow, this is our God.'  I get used to seeing God's handiwork in sunrises, stars, the wonder of nature, etc. Those things are so beautiful and definitely speak to my soul.  But this...this was sheer power.  Reckless, unleashed wildness that dared us to take on it's risk and taste it's adventure.  Now, if I were a man, I think I would think 'Now there's a God I want to live for.'  As a woman, I'm also excited, inspired, and challenged by that dimension of our God, but I do think the implications are probably different than for men.

Although God is pictured as a mighty and strong Being, I think the true meaning of that is often overlooked or at least understated. I don't believe that our God is a tame, domesticated, or 'play it safe' Being.  As the Creator of creatures like lions, tigers, and bears (oh my) how could He be? I find this idea incredibly encouraging for men and women of the world.
